Prismatic Shell-Polish
Aura strong evocation; CL 13th;
Slot none; Weight 6 lbs. (1/2 lb./ dose); Price 24,000 gp (2,000 gp per dose)
This magical product comes in containers carefully fashioned from turtle-shells, and appears as a rainbow-colored paste; following the construction requirements below creates on dozen separate doses. Prismatic shell-polish imparts random effects to the shell of a living creature that are activated when struck by a physical or targeted magical attack (but not a supernatural one, like channeling.) One dose can cover the shell of a Medium creature or 2 Small creatures, but 4 doses must be used to cover the shell of a Large creature; it takes one minute to apply. The polish lasts for 7 hours, or until the user is struck by a physical or magical attack, whereupon the effect lasts for 7 rounds. Thus, if a being under the effect of prismatic shell-polish is hit with a sword, the attacker must make a DC 20 Reflex to take ½ damage (1-4) or have no effect (5-7). If a being is struck by a magical attack (a spell or spell-like power that does damage or does not have the ‘harmless’ descriptor) then they gain the listed effect for the remainder of the 7-round duration. The 7-round duration begins with the first successful attack.

Note: Eligible PC races would include zif, entobian coleophites, or kappa. Monsters such as turtles, tortoises, and other shelled monsters could use this item as well.
