You preserve a spell or a spell on the target to prevent its duration expiring. To affect the spell, the spell must be of a lower spell level than preserve spell and you must succeed at a dispel check. This is a caster level check against DC 11 + spell’s caster level. You can always choose to automatically succeed at a dispel check against a spell you cast. The spell’s effects are entirely sup-pressed while preserved, although its duration continues to elapse at a reduced rate. Spells with 1 round or less remaining duration can’t be preserved this way. Convert the spell’s remaining duration in the largest applicable unit from this list to the next higher unit: rounds, minutes, tens of minutes, hours. A spell that has previously been preserved can’t be preserved again. When preserve spell’s duration ends, round the duration consumed up to the next whole unit and convert back to the lower unit and the remaining duration elapses at the normal rate.

For example, a spell with a remaining duration of 8 whole rounds is subject to this spell, increasing its remaining duration to 8 minutes while its effects are suppressed. After 3 minutes and 6 rounds, the caster dismisses it. 4 whole minutes remain, which becomes 4 rounds of active duration.
