In the hobgoblin tribally-controlled prairie regions of the Hinterlands of Kesh, the constant balance between the forces of war and religion is fraught with much tension and intrigue, far more than the skittish settlers of the frontier regions there would realize, as they assume the whole of the nation are ravening raiders. Ceyda, of the Broken-Shield clan, has pursued a calling that perhaps will bridge the fractious gap between religion and military among the clans. Drafted into the 12th Cohort, she is classified as cha-chakal, or “special auxiliary”, a term used in the hierarchical ranks to designate an apt warrior, but one who does not easily typical description. Ceyda is a Pillar of Kamus, a type of elite horse-warrior generally referred to as a cavalier that has a special dedication to a deity, in this case, the patron slaver-deity of the Valshol hobgoblins, Kamus, Lord of the Chain. Selected as an infant by the minions of Esral, matron-cleric leader of the Broken-Shields, the auguries foretold she would be the warrior-adherent to meld the divisiveness of the two factions. She has been instructed in the ways of elite warriorhood, not just simple raiding, and equally schooled in the religious doctrine of Kamus the Pure. Ceyda burns with the desire to lead a unified nation, and makes not move or action not geared towards that goal.
